The Tulsa 66ers will select Grant Jerrett with the No. 1 overall pick in tonight’s NBA Development League Draft, The Oklahoman has learned.

Jerrett was selected by Portland with the 40th overall pick in this year’s NBA draft but was immediately traded to the Thunder. The 6-foot-10 power forward out of Arizona played with the Thunder’s summer league team in Orlando but did not sign a contract to join Oklahoma City. Had the Thunder brought Jerrett to training camp and cut him from the final 15-man roster, the team would have lost his draft rights. Instead of running the risk of losing Jerrett, the Thunder was expected to sign him to the 66ers, its D-League affiliate.

But with Jerrett now in the player pool for the D-League draft, any team can select him, which forces Tulsa to draft him to ensure he joins the 66ers and stays close to the Thunder.

The 66ers on Thursday acquired the No. 1 overall pick in a three-team trade, a move that has since become clear it was made so none of the D-League’s other 16 teams would have a chance to select Jerrett. Tulsa, however, had to send point guard Diante Garrett, who was recently waived by the Thunder, along with the 11th overall pick to the Iowa Energy. The Energy sent the No. 1 overall pick to the 66ers and Lorenzo Brown to the Springfield Armor. Springfield traded the No. 3 overall pick to Iowa and former Tulsa standout Ben Uzoh to the 66ers.

Jerrett played one season at Arizona, averaging 5.2 points and 3.6 rebounds in 17.8 minutes per game. He made 40.5 percent of his 3-point field goal attempts during his lone season with the Wildcats and built on his reputation as a sharpshooting big man in Orlando, where he averaged 10.8 points and made 10 of 20 3-point attempts.

The D-League draft is at 6 p.m. Brandon Barnett and Will Dawkins will oversee the draft for the 66ers.
