TULSA — A first-year comics and gaming convention boasts an impressive array of talent this weekend at the Southern Hills Marriott, 1902 E 71.

Writer and executive Matt Hawkins of Top Cow will attend the Green Country Comics and Gaming convention; he’s joined by two noted writers with Oklahoma ties, Sterling Gates and Mel Odom.

“From a writer’s standpoint, there are 10 different writers doing panels over the weekend,” said Saif Khan, who is in charge of media relations for the convention. “For writers, this is a really exciting event.”

Hawkins is the president of Top Cow and writer of comics including “Think Tank,” “Aphrodite IX” and “Lady Pendragon.” Hawkins has also worked as a producer of TV series, films and video games.

Gates, who now lives in Los Angeles, is originally from Tulsa. He’s written DC Comics including “Green Lantern Corps,” “Action Comics,” “Hawk and Dove” and “Supergirl.” He’s writing the upcoming series “Forever Evil: A.R.G.U.S.”

“I’m beyond excited to head to my hometown and meet all of the fantastic people coming out to the Green Country Comics and Gaming convention,” Gates told The Oklahoman. “It looks to be an amazing show for comic fans, book fans, gaming fans ... heck, it’s got something for everyone. The organizers have been wonderful to work with, and we’ve put together some really interesting panels on comic book writing and production.”
