TULSA, Okla. (AP) — The University of Tulsa opens its 2013 football season this week at Bowling Green.
Thursday's game in Bowling Green, Ohio, is the second earliest opening game date for Tulsa in school history. The earliest was played on Aug. 28, 1997, also in the state of Ohio, against Cincinnati.
Tulsa returns eight letter winners to the offensive unit, but just three on defense. Senior linebacker Shawn Jackson enters the season needing two sacks to tie the school record of 20, and three tackles for losses to tie the school record of 40. Jackson has 18 career sacks for minus-118 yards and 37 tackles for losses for minus-162 yards.
Tulsa is coming off an 11-3 season in which the Golden Hurricane won the Conference USA Championship and the AutoZone Liberty Bowl.
