TULSA — Authorities identified Daniel Leroy Nichols, 57, as the suicidal man killed this morning by a Tulsa police sniper.

A 911 caller reported a suicidal man at Sparks Aviation, 3112 N 74 E Ave., about 7:30 p.m. Sunday, and officers found Nichols seated on the parking lot pavement next to a car, police said in a news release. He threatened suicide and held a gun to his head during a standoff that lasted more than 4 1/2 hours as officers negotiated with him.

Nichols eventually pointed the gun at officers and the sniper fired, police said.

Police did not release the name of the officer who fired the shot.
