Tulsa Union-Jenks rivalry game tops Cox's 2012 football schedule

Al Jerkens replaces Mike Wolfe as broadcaster on Tulsa area games

Tulsa Union and Jenks each will make three appearances on the Cox Communications' high school football telecast schedule, including meeting each other in their season opener. Norman North and Broken Arrow also will be on three times according to the 19-game schedule announced Monday.

In arguably the state's biggest rivalry, defending Class 6A champion Tulsa Union will face Jenks at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 31 at the University of Tulsa's H.A. Chapman Stadium. Union edged Jenks 30-29 in the 6A semifinals last year.

Al Jerkens, longtime KJRH-2 sports director, will broadcast Tulsa area games this season. He replaces Mike Wolfe, who was dropped last month after Cox's nightly sports show, “SportsNight Oklahoma,” was canceled after five years. Steve Marshall will call Oklahoma City area games. Rod Thompson will be the primary analyst for all Cox games.

Cox has scheduled two games on three dates. The main game will air live in the primary market and the secondary game will be carried on tape delay. On Sept. 21, Norman North at Midwest City will air at 7 p.m. in the Oklahoma City area, followed by Owasso at Tulsa Union on tape delay.
