Tulsa voters prepare to pick next mayor
Published: November 10, 2009
TULSA — Voters in Tulsa are heading to the polls this morning to pick a new mayor.
Republican Dewey Bartlett Jr. and Democrat Tom Adelson face independents Mark Perkins and Lawrence Kirkpatrick in Tuesday's election to succeed Mayor Kathy Taylor.
Taylor announced in June that she would not run for re-election.
At the time, she cited the economic downturn and the need to guide the city through the turbulent months ahead instead of focusing on the politics of a re-election campaign.
Taylor is returning to Gov. Brad Henry's administration when she leaves office in December for a job that will prepare Oklahoma for federal education grants that reward innovation in the classroom.
