Tulsa Zoo announces birth of jaguar cub

Oklahoman Published: April 8, 2014

TULSA (AP) — The Tulsa Zoo has announced the birth of a jaguar cub.

The zoo said Tuesday that the cub was born March 26 as part of the Jaguar Species Survival Plan that manages species in Association of Zoos and Aquariums-accredited zoos nationwide. Jaguars are considered near threatened due to habitat loss and there are currently an estimated 10,000 jaguars existing in the wild.

The zoo says another cub did not survive birth.

The cub and its mother are being kept in a private den at the zoo.
