Sait Yavuz, an expert on the Turkish-based Gulen Education Model, is speaking at 1 p.m. Monday in the Education Building Auditorium, Room 115.

Yavuz will speak about scholar and civic leader Fethullah Gulen and his educational philosophy, which promotes a positive model for the integration of the Turkish immigrants in Germany as well as schools in areas of conflict.

"Yavuz’s talk will enable our students, faculty, staff and other community members the opportunity to learn more about the Gulen School model, which has been quite successful in many parts of the world,” said James Machell, dean of the College of Education and Professional Studies.

"Learning more about educational systems used internationally better enables our students to understand the context for American education.”

Yavuz is currently the director of Academic Affairs for the Gulen Institute at University of Houston.

The main goal of the Gulen Institute is to promote academic research as well as bring about social change, through the establishment of education, volunteerism and civic initiatives.

Yavuz will host a question and answer session following his presentation.

Sarah Hill is a University Relations staff writer at UCO.
