E! unleashes "Pam” in August
E!'s not-really-a-reality-show reality show starring Pamela Anderson will be making its way to your TV screen in August.
A new season of the cable channel's series "Keeping Up With the Kardashians” also is on its way.
"Pam: Girl on the Loose” is set to premiere at 9 p.m. Aug. 3. The show promises a "truly personal and in-depth glimpse” into Anderson's life as a mother, working actress and animal-rights activist.
Episodes will feature the former "Baywatch” and "Stacked” star holding a massive yard sale, attending meetings for various business endeavors and tending to her kids without the help of a maid or a nanny.
Anderson is among the executive producers of "Girl on the Loose.”
"Keeping Up With the Kardashians,” meanwhile, will unveil its third season early next year. The Ryan Seacrest-produced show has performed well for E!, winning its time period in the show's core demographic of women 18 to 34.
PBS to air national spark series
BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. — Documentary filmmaker Ken Burns' new series celebrating America's national parks and detailing their history will air in fall 2009, PBS announced.
"The National Parks: America's Best Idea” is a 12-hour, six-part film tracing origins and growth of the national parks system over 150 years.
The series will feature Burns' trademark blend of archival photos, interviews and what PBS called "breathtaking images” of the national parks system. Tom Hanks, Andy Garcia and John Lithgow are among the actors who lend their voices to historical figures in the series. The narrator is actor Peter Coyote.
"Army Wives” reports for third season
Lifetime is re-enlisting "Army Wives” for another season. The series, which set ratings records for the network, has earned a pickup for a third season in 2009, Lifetime announced at the Television Critics Association press tour. The new season is set to air in 2009.
"‘Army Wives' has become a game-changer for Lifetime,” network president Andrea Wong said. "Announcing this early renewal is a testament to the enormous faith and confidence we have in this show and its incredibly talented cast and production team.”
Through five episodes this summer, the show is averaging about 4 million viewers per week. The June 8 season premiere drew 4.5 million viewers, the most for an original series in the network's history; "Army Wives” is also the top-rated series among women 18 to 49 and 25 to 54 on all of ad-supported cable.
Lifetime has ordered 18 episodes for the third season. The show stars Kim Delaney, Catherine Bell, Sally Pressman, Brigid Brannagh, Sterling K. Brown, Wendy Davis, Drew Fuller and Brian McNamara.
