The report of a meth lab inside Motel 6 at Interstate 35 and SE 44 prompted emergency workers to briefly evacuate four people until investigators determined the meth lab was not an active operation.

Police officers driving through the motel’s parking lot saw a car belonging to a missing person and went to a room for a welfare check, police Master Sgt. Gary Knight said.

In the room was a small, portable meth lab that most likely could produce enough of the drug for one or two people’s use, police said. Chemicals associated with meth production were in the room, but the drug was not being actively "cooked,” Knight said.

Knight said the missing person was found "alive and well,” but he would not say whether the reported missing person was one of those arrested.
