MIDWEST CITY — A fire broke out Sunday in an apartment complex, killing two children and injuring a few other residents.
Midwest City Fire Department Maj. David Richardson said firefighters were called to 449 Harr Drive shortly before noon Sunday. Video footage taken by a neighbor showed thick gray smoke billowing from the roof of the complex and tall flames.
“I was afraid of everything being ruined and everyone getting out. It was terrifying,” said Toni Padgett, 16, of Midwest City.
Padgett said she was at her boyfriend's apartment when they noticed the fire a few units away.
She said his mother, Amy Love, 43, of Choctaw, just arrived to pick them up when she saw the smoke coming and called 911.
“It just spread so quickly,” Padgett said.
Firefighters arrived and discovered the body of a 2-year-old boy in an apartment unit, Richardson said.
He said firefighters also found a 26-year-old woman and 4-year-old boy unresponsive in the unit.
They were taken to the hospital, where the woman was revived.
The boy was pronounced dead, Richardson said.
The names of the victims have not been released.
