Neighbors stood outside of the apartment complex and watched as firefighters carried out equipment and continued to investigate the fire throughout the afternoon.

After calling 911, Love said she started knocking on doors to alert people to get out of the building.

Her son, Jake Hill, 25, said he was walking toward the smoke to investigate when he heard the sound of glass breaking.

He said he looked up and saw a man jump out a second-story window of the complex.

Hill said he thought the man had broken his leg, but he only suffered injuries to one of his ankles and wrists.

Richardson said a couple were trapped in a back unit and had to be rescued by firefighters.

The woman was given oxygen and later taken to a hospital because of smoke inhalation.

Other neighbors also were able to escape, and a few were treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Resident Steve Wilson, 32, of Midwest City, said he was sleeping and woke up to see the fire.

He said he only remembers running out of the house with his dog.

The source of the blaze is unknown at this time, as well as where it originated, Richardson said.

At least eight units were damaged by the fire, he said.

A damage estimate was not available Sunday.
