A man was killed Friday morning in a head-on collision on State Highway 66 at Lutheran Road in northeast Oklahoma City, and another man died in a wreck near Wagoner, authorities said.

James L. Partin, 76, Oklahoma City

Partin was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision, police Master Sgt. Gary Knight said.

The driver of the other vehicle, Karaina Meeker, 33, was taken to OU Medical Center, where she underwent surgery, Knight said. She is expected to survive.

Police say Meeker was traveling at a high rate of speed east on NE 192/SH 66 when she attempted to pass a vehicle on a hill. She moved into oncoming traffic at the top of the hill and hit Partin's vehicle head-on, Knight said.

Jimmie Lee Smithson, 40, Okmulgee

Smithson was driving south on State Highway 16 about a mile and a half south of Wagoner when he lost control of his pickup for an unknown reason about midnight, Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers said.

The pickup ran off the right side of the road and flipped twice, throwing Smithson out of the vehicle. He was not wearing a seat belt, troopers said.

The wreck wasn't discovered until 7 a.m., by which time Smithson had died, troopers said.
