Two die in wrecks on state roads

A man died when his car crashed into a tree and caught fire Sunday night, and a motorcyclist died in a crash south of Wilson on Monday afternoon, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported.

Jesse Smith Jr., 28, Wilson

Smith was driving west about 4:30 p.m. Monday at a high rate of speed on a Carter County road about five miles south of Wilson, troopers said. He failed to stop at a stop sign, laid the bike down and crashed into a trailer being pulled by a westbound pickup stopped at the stop sign. Smith died at the scene. He was not wearing a helmet.

Unidentified man

About 9:05 p.m. Sunday, a man identified only as a white male was driving southbound on State Highway 82 about seven miles north of Tahlequah in Cherokee County. The car left the road and crashed into a tree, where it was engulfed in flames. The driver was trapped inside, troopers said.
