A Colorado man was arrested on two complaints of second-degree murder after his pickup struck an sport utility vehicle carrying two Oklahoma City residents early Saturday.

Eric Christopher Bowman, 24, remains hospitalized but in custody after police found him in a field shortly after the accident, which occurred about 1:30 a.m. at NW 10 and County Line Road.

Oklahoma City police said Bowman was the driver of a truck that was going more than 100 mph when it collided with the SUV that was pulling out of a 7-Eleven parking lot at the intersection.

Oklahoma City residents Joshua Aaron Wright, 35, and his soon-to-be mother-in-law, Tammy Louise Long, 42, were killed on impact, police Lt. Kevin Parton said.

Two passengers in Bowman's pickup also were hospitalized, Parton said.

The crash sent the SUV into a traffic light pole, which fell and clipped the valve of a high pressure gas line, sending natural gas spewing into the air, Parton said.

An Oklahoma Natural Gas crew was able to put a temporary fix on the line, but gas service remained off for several residencies and businesses in the area, he said.

“They had to close everything off quite a while, while they repaired the gas line, and after they could close the gas line then they could come in and remove the deceased and work the wreck,” Parton said.

Bowman was arrested on two complaints of second-degree murder, leaving the scene of a collision involving death, driving with a revoked license, reckless driving and speeding in excess of 25 mph over the posted limit.
