Three die after separate water-related accidents in Oklahoma

A Shawnee man and a Texas man drowned in separate accidents Sunday, and an 8-year-old girl died Tuesday after she nearly drowned Monday, Oklahoma authorities reported.

Michael Allen, 51, of Shawnee

Michael Allen drowned about 6 p.m. Sunday in Shawnee Twin Lakes, state medical examiner’s office spokeswoman Amy Elliot said.

The medical examiner determined his death to be an accident.

Cecilio Perez Vamarripa, 20, of Sherman, Texas.

About 7 p.m. Sunday, Vamarripa was swimming in the Willifa Woods area of Lake Texoma in Bryan County when he became fatigued and went under, troopers said.

He did not resurface and authorities recovered his body about 2:55 p.m. Tuesday, troopers said.

Unidentified girl, 8, of Altus

About 7:25 a.m. Monday, a girl was swimming with her grandfather at Horsehead Cove at Lake Altus-Lugert in Greer County when she stepped into deep water and went under. Her grandfather found her and started cardiopulmonary resuscitation, troopers said.

The girl was flown to Children’s Hospital at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City. She died about 6:40 p.m. Tuesday.
