POTEAU - Rape charges were filed against two Le Flore County residents after videotape in a separate criminal investigation showed the pair forcing a 13-year-old girl to engage in sexual activities, prosecutors said Wednesday.

Leora Faye Hice, 26, and James Donald Maxie Jr., 37, each were charged Tuesday with one count of first-degree rape and rape by instrumentation.

The tape showed the two raping the juvenile female in 2000, said Marion Fry, assistant district attorney.

Authorities said Hice's whereabouts are unknown, and a warrant was issued for her arrest.

Fry said authorities discovered the videotape while investigating accusations that Maxie raped three girls, ages 7, 11 and 12 years old. Prosecutors said the abuse occurred between Feb. 1 and Oct. 15.

According to court records, Maxie was charged Nov. 7 with three counts of first-degree rape by force and fear, and one count of rape by instrumentation after the girls accused him of inappropriate touching and forcing them into sexual intercourse. The youngest female accused Maxie of abusing her with an object.

A medical examination revealed the three girls were sexually abused and the 12-year-old was pregnant, records state.

Fry said that in a separate court hearing held Tuesday, the court ordered Maxie to undergo a competency hearing on the those rape charges.

Maxie is the subject of another investigation into counterfeit $20 bills and pornographic videos of children, Fry said.

He remains in the Le Flore County jail on a $125,000 bond.
