Two more sue Feed The Children about firings
Two more fired Feed The Children employees are suing the charity.
Elizabeth Vincent and
John Berton Richman filed wrongful termination lawsuits Monday in
Oklahoma County District Court. They seek compensation for lost income and emotional harm. They also ask to be awarded punitive damages.
"They’re both good employees,” said former Feed The Children President Larry Jones.
"It’s just recklessness. They’re firing good people,” he said.
The lawsuits are the latest to come out of the turmoil at the Oklahoma City-based Christian relief organization.
At least seven other former employees have sued the charity this year after being fired. The most prominent is Jones, who was fired Nov. 6. He is seeking reinstatement.
Vincent alleges in her lawsuit she was fired Nov. 10 after she objected to a misuse of donations. Her attorney, Mark Hammons, states in the lawsuit she was retaliated against for her opposition.
Her lawsuit said she opposed moving donations dedicated to special projects into a general fund where the money could be used to pay administrative costs and salaries.
Vincent is a supporter of Jones. She was involved in a petition circulated at the charity in the spring that called for the resignations of top executives and charity directors at odds with Jones.
Richman alleges in his lawsuit he was fired Oct. 7 because he objected after a charity accountant was fired for uncovering tax fraud. Richman is dating the accountant, Jones said.
