Another male prison guard was charged with rape and sodomy earlier in the year at Mabel Bassett.

According to the department, an internal investigation was launched in September 2011 after numerous allegations of sexual misconduct involving David Heath Juber, of Shawnee, were reported to administrators.

Juber, who was a corporal, was allegedly having sexual contact with at least two female inmates at the prison before his arrest in February.

The two women were able to provide intimate details about Juber, including the fact that he had pierced nipples and a tattoo on his chest, according to an affidavit filed in the case.

Following his arrest in February, Juber was charged with second-degree rape and four counts of forcible sodomy.

The Pottawatomie County district attorney filed additional second-degree rape and forcible sodomy charges against the former detention officer in June.

Juber had been disciplined before while employed by the prison.

According to court records, he was suspended two days without pay in early 2009 for accepting at least three letters “of a personal and sexual nature” from a female inmate.

Juber, 38, has since been released on $20,000 bail.
