Two southeastern Oklahoma candidates are seeking to become the first independent lawmaker at the state Capitol in nearly 80 years, while a House member hopes to get elected to the Senate.

Voters in House District 1, which covers McCurtain County , and the new Senate District 46 in Oklahoma City will go to the polls Tuesday to fill vacancies. Winners will be sworn in the next week, after results are certified F...
