Two people are in serious condition after falling 45 feet while using an Oklahoma City climbing facility, according to an Emergency Services Medical Authority official.

The climbers were taken to OU Medical Center after the accident, which occurred about 4:20 p.m. Friday at the Rocktown Climbing Gym, 200 SE 4, EMSA spokeswoman Lara O'Leary said.

O'Leary characterized the injuries as traumatic, but did not have further details about the people hurt in the fall.

The rock-climbing facility is housed in a grain elevator repurposed for climbing. Climbs are as high as 90 feet and as wide as 140 feet, according to the facility's website.

Supporters gathered in the emergency room waiting area, awaiting word from doctors on the victims' condition. Aaron Gibson, a co-owner of Rocktown Climbing Gym, was among those waiting in the emergency room. He declined to comment.
