Two suspects in two separate incidents shot themselves to death Monday after the Oklahoma City police tactical team was called to help take them into custody.

Capt. Dexter Nelson said police got a call about 9:15 a.m. that a suspect wanted by another agency possibly was suicidal. The man was in a car, and police followed him across the south side of town before he finally stopped and they were able to block his car at a church at SW 39 and Pennsylvania Avenue.

Before police could get into the car, the man shot himself, Nelson said.

A second call came in after 11 a.m., with the caller reporting a rape at a home in the 500 block of SW 28. Police went to the home and heard a gunshot while they were walking up to the front door, Nelson said.

The tactical team was busy with the earlier call and could not get to the scene for a couple of hours. When they arrived, they entered the home and found the rape suspect had shot himself.

The names of the deceased individuals were not immediately available, Nelson said.
