Types of bleeding disorders

• Hemophilia: A rare bleeding disorder in which the blood doesn't clot normally. It is primarily found in men.

• Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura: A bleeding disorder in which the blood doesn't clot as it should because of a low number of blood cell fragments called platelets or thrombocytes. The two types of this disorder are acute, which lasts short-term, and chronic, which is long-lasting.

• Von Willebrand disease: A bleeding disorder that affects your blood's ability to clot. With this disorder, you either have low levels of a certain protein in your blood or the protein doesn't work well. The protein is called von Willebrand factor, and it helps your blood clot. It is more common and usually milder than hemophilia and affects both genders.
