U-Bild: Outdoor Santa and crew deliver holiday cheer

Don and Dave Runyan: Is there better way to get ready for Christmas than with a big, colorful, do-it-yourself outdoor display?

Soon it will begin to look a lot like Christmas, and that means Santa Claus is coming to town.

And what better way to get ready than with this big, colorful, do-it-yourself outdoor display? A fun and easy way to share some holiday spirit with the whole neighborhood, the project includes Santa Claus, Mrs. Claus, the sleigh, eight reindeer and the family cat — 12 figures in all.

Perfect for the front yard (or even up on the roof), Santa and his crew also can deliver holiday cheer to parks, businesses and schools. The figures are life-size, so Santa stands nearly six feet tall!

Besides the posters (printed on weather-resistant poster paper with waterproof, “sunfast” inks), the project requires a few sheets of exterior plywood, waterproof glue, paint and sealer. It's designed to last for years untreated, but a coat of polyurethane sealer is recommended to add greater protection from the elements.

Construction is simple. Just glue the posters onto plywood, cut out and paint the edges and backs. Once everything's dry, add a coat of sealer, attach stakes or stands (made from leftover plywood or galvanized pipe), set up and enjoy. It's so easy the whole family can get involved.

The Santa Display, No. C20, is $59.95 and includes posters for all 11 figures plus the sleigh. Separately, Santa (No. 189) is $14.95, Mrs. Claus (No. 335) is $13.95, the Sleigh (No. 257) is $16.95 and the Reindeer (No. 256) are $7.95 each.

Include $4 per order for postage and handling and allow about two weeks for delivery.
