The city's economic impact from the 2014 U.S. Senior Open is estimated to be $12.9 million if 130,500 people attend the event at Oak Tree National, Edmond Economic Development Authority officials said.

That figure could be low, Edmond Electric Director Glenn Fisher said Tuesday, because the attendance estimate has been raised to 157,000.

The economic impact is the estimated increase in value of production or demand directly generated by the 2014 U.S. Senior Open, as well as at other local businesses as a result of the tournament.

The estimate does not account for impacts made by airfare, car rentals, purse winnings by local residents or media exposure associated with the event.

Edmond Electric will install the infrastructure needed for the tournament activities. The electrical lines were put in when the 67th Senior PGA Championship was held at the then-Oak Tree Golf Club in 2006, but were removed after the tournament.

Fisher said the lines will be permanently installed this time, because Oak Tree officials are planning on more tournaments.

The tournament is expected to generate 152 jobs and nearly $3.9 million in personal income, according to the Economic Development Authority report.
