A group of Edmond officials attended in August the 2013 U.S. Senior Open in Omaha, Neb., to see how the tournament was operated.
“We learned things we want to do,” said Janet Yowell, Edmond Economic Development Authority executive director.
Local officials plan to concentrate on hospitality and do a better job than Omaha, said Avilla Williams, president of Integris Health Edmond and authority board member.
The 2014 U.S. Senior Open, governed by the United States Golf Association, will be July 7-13.
The 35th U.S. Senior Open will feature 156 of the world's best professional and amateur senior golfers, all over age 50. Players eligible to compete include Fred Couples, Fred Funk, Bernhard Langer, Tom Lehman and Tom Watson. The field may include Oak Tree National's own Gil Morgan, Bob Tway, Willie Wood and Scott Verplank.
