From June 21-23, the United States' best wrestlers will compete in Stillwater for the 21 spots on Team USA at the 2013 ASICS U.S. World Team Trials. The U.S. Senior World Team Trials will take place on Friday and Saturday, while the FILA Junior World Team Trials are scheduled for Sunday, both at Gallagher-Iba Arena.

Seven members from each wrestling style will represent the United State in Budapest, Hungary, on Sept. 16-22 at the 2013 World Wrestling Championship.

The Senior Division will feature three Olympic styles of wrestling: men's freestyle, women's freestyle and Greco-Roman. In freestyle, a wrestler is allowed to attack their opponents' legs, whereas in Greco-Roman, all shots must occur above the waist.

Champions from the 2013 U.S. Open in Las Vegas in men's and women's freestyle will advance directly to a best-of-three championship series in their weight class.

In the Junior Division, the nation's best 17-20 year-olds will participate in men's freestyle and Greco-Roman for an opportunity to represent the U.S. at the Junior World Championship in Sofia, Bulgaria, from Aug. 13-18.

“There's a lot of different reasons why (OSU is the host site), but historically we've had a number of world champions,” Oklahoma State coach John Smith said. “These trials, it's great competition. For fans you're going to see … a lot of action. If one mat's boring, you're going to see probably another mat with a lot of action. It's like watching four basketball games.

“And of course, Gallagher-Iba doesn't have a bad seat.”
