BACK IN THE OLYMPIC SPOTLIGHT

On Feb 12, the International Olympic Committee announced wrestling, one of the five original sports from the 1896 Olympics, would be cut from the Summer Games.

The IOC executive board announced on May 29 that wrestling would compete with squash and baseball/softball for the final space in the 2020 Summer Olympics.

In September, the IOC's executive board will meet in Buenos Aires, Argentina, for the final decision.

“It's the ultimate goal in the sport of wrestling is to be an Olympic gold medalist,” Smith, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, said. “You reach the highest high that you can. It's our Super Bowl, it's our World Series, it's the NBA Finals, the Olympics is it.”
