STORRS, Conn. (AP) — The University of Connecticut women's basketball team has taken a campus victory lap, one day after winning a record ninth NCAA championship.
The team was driven around campus in an open-air, double-decker bus and drew cheers from students gathered outside the Student Center on Wednesday afternoon.
Seniors Bria Hartley and Stefanie Dolson tearfully thanked their fans and fellow students.
Coach Geno Auriemma said his team's win and the UConn men's national basketball victory seemed destined to happen, and was more meaningful because it was shared.
He also made a pitch for others to come to UConn, saying there's "absolutely no question and no doubt that if you come to school here, you are a champion and you're going to live with champions."
