The University of Central Oklahoma’s cheer and pom squads recently brought home second-place trophies in All-Girl Cheer, Dance Hip Hop and Dance Team Division II and fourth place in Coed Intermediate Cheer.

The teams competed in Daytona Beach, Fla., during the National Cheerleaders Association and National Dance Alliance College Nationals.

“While it didn’t go our way to bring home championships, our teams fought their way to almost taking first in cheer and dance,” said Kay Robinson, director of Campus Activities at UCO.

Robinson said UCO’s all-girl squad took second in cheer despite losing a teammate to an injury during the final performance.

“We were in 15th place last year in Dance Hip Hop, and the team came back in 2014 to take second. They couldn’t have represented themselves, or Central, any better,” Robinson said.

UCO’s spirit teams have won nine national championships in the past 11 years.
