— Golden Key International Honour Society recently recognized the University of Central Oklahoma chapter for its academic, service and leadership involvement.

Golden Key UCO Chapter earned Silver Standing status for the 2011-12 academic year.

Sarah Mashburn, Golden Key UCO president, said obtaining Silver Standing is an honor, and she is proud of the officers and members for their hard work and dedication.

“It is exciting to see that the UCO GK Chapter is on the right track and has achieved so much since being rechartered in fall 2011. I am so proud of the turnaround that our chapter has made within the past year,” Mashburn said.

International headquarters recognizes three levels of chapter involvement — Bronze, Silver and Gold.

Several factors were considered in determining the status upgrade.

The chapter had to meet strict criteria in several areas, including academics, service learning projects, leadership and chapter operations.

For their service learning criteria, members have volunteered at Special Care, the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma and Urban Harvest Garden.
