For the 10th time in 11 years, the University of Central Oklahoma's cheer and pom squads have been named national champions.

The all-girls and stunt squads placed first in their division at the 2013 National Cheer Association/National Dance Association Collegiate Championships in Daytona Beach, Fla., university officials said in a news release.

“I could not be more proud of the way these teams represented Central,” said Kay Robinson, director of campus activities. “They have been practicing for months and have literally given blood, sweat and tears on their road to the championships.”

Community support — through Facebook messages, Twitter, phone calls and texts — helped the members win the national title.

“The teams wanted to win and make everyone back home proud,” Robinson said.
