University of Oklahoma coaches receive pay raises, contract extensions

The University of Oklahoma Board of Regents approved the changes at the board's meeting in Ardmore. The raise brings the coaches' salaries to $350,000 each.

The changes came as a part of a slate of about 30 coaches' contract changes that the board approved before the end of the fiscal year. Also included were assistant football coaches Bobby Jack Wright, Jackie Shipp, James Patton, Bruce Kittle and Cale Gundy.

Among those, Gundy, OU's running backs coach, received the largest raise at $15,000. Following that raise, Gundy is scheduled to receive $270,000 next season.

Softball coach Patty Gasso's contract was extended through June 2017, and she received a $10,000 raise, with a provision that she will see an additional $5,000 raise through the end of her contract. Earlier this year, Gasso led the OU softball team to the finals of the Women's College World Series, where the Sooners lost to Alabama.

Women's basketball coach Sherri Coale also received a $10,000 raise. Coale's contract was extended through June 2018.

Both gymnastics coaches also received substantial raises. Women's gymnastics coach K.J. Kindler got a $60,000 raise, and men's coach Mark Williams got a $56,000 pay increase.
