University of Oklahoma officials received approval Friday to move forward with an expansion project at L. Dale Mitchell Baseball Park.
The OU Board of Regents approved a proposed design for the project at the board's meeting Friday in Oklahoma City.
OU officials estimate the project will carry a price tag of $850,000. OU Athletic Director Joe Castiglione said the athletic department had set aside private funds to complete the project. University officials expect to begin construction in January and be complete by May.
The expansion will include replacing the existing ticket booth with a booth that resembles the ones at the northeast and northwest corners of Gaylord Family — Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.
University officials also plan to build a fence outside the stadium facing Imhoff Road.
The fence will feature brick columns and wrought-iron panels, and will connect to an existing fence on the east and west ends. Castiglione said that fence would provide additional security at the stadium.
The project is the second phase in a series of expansions at the stadium. The first phase included backstop netting, seating and upgrades to the warning track, synthetic turf and dugout.
