UPDATE: Name of victim in fatal crash near Newcastle released

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reports a fatal wreck Monday in McClain County.

9:45 a.m. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol has released the name of a man killed in a crash on the H.E. Bailey Turnpike near Newcastle.

Phillip G. Prestriedge, 63, of Oklahoma City, was killed about 3:15 a.m.

Prestriedge was improperly backing a car in the westbound lanes when the car was struck by a tractor-trailer.

Prestriedge was dead at the scene from massive injuries.

The tractor-trailer driver, James G. Parker, 64, of Altus, was not injured, the patrol reports. Both men wore seat belts.

7:50 a.m. The H.E. Bailey Turnpike southbound is reopen after a fatal crash near the Canadian River in the Newcastle area about 3:30 a.m.

5 a.m. NEWCASTLE — A fatal crash has been reported by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol early Monday near the Canadian River.

The crash happened about 3:30 a.m. on the H.E. Bailey Turnpike in McClain County. The southbound lanes have been shut down, the patrol reports.
