UPDATE: Girl, 8, rescued from southwest Oklahoma lake dies

The 8-year-old girl who rescued from Lake Altus-Lugert in Greer County but died Tuesday.

7:40 p.m. The 8-year-old girl who rescued from Lake Altus-Lugert in Greer County has died, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported. She died about 6:40 p.m. Tuesday.

Her name has not been released.

5 a.m. An 8-year-old girl is in critical condition after being rescued from Lake Altus-Lugert in Greer County by her grandfather, the Oklahoma Lake Patrol reports.

The girl was rescued from Horsehead Cove about 7:25 a.m. Monday. Her name has not been reported.

The girl, of Altus, was swimming with her grandfather when she stepped into deep water and went under. Her grandfather found her and started cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Emergency crews arrived and she was flown to OU Medical Center.
