UPDATE: Grass fires burning in northwest Oklahoma City Thursday

Several grass fires have been reported in Oklahoma City. Firefighters have extinguished the blazes.

11:05 a.m. A grass fire near apartment buildings at Memorial Road and N Pennsylvania Avenue is out, said fire Maj. Tammy McKinney. Crews continue be alert for more fires. “This wind is really driving the fires today,” McKinney said. Check for updates.

10:45 a.m. Several apartment buildings are being evacuated near a grass fire burning at Memorial Road and N Pennsylvania Avenue Thursday. Firefighters are working to extinguish the fire. Check for updates.

9:50 a.m. Firefighters have contained two grass fires in far northwest Oklahoma City Thursday morning, said fire Maj. Tammy McKinney. Firefighters were extinguishing a blaze at NW 178 and N Council Road. Firefighters also stopped a grass fire at NW 150 and N Rockwell Avenue that threatened a structure. McKinney said the grass fires Thursday have been small, but a strong south wind increases fire danger. Check for updates.

7 a.m. Firefighters have extinguished a grass fire in northeast Oklahoma City Thursday. High fire danger continues in gusty winds. Check for updates.

6:38 a.m. A grass fire has been reported in northeast Oklahoma City Thursday morning.

The fire is in the 7300 block of N Post Road.

The fire started about 6:25 a.m. Firefighters reported power lines are sparking in the high winds. Check for updates.
