A family of five lost their home and many of their possessions Wednesday as flames overtook their two-story brick house north of Edmond.

Ben and Nicole Amato and their three sons were not at their home in the 13000 block of S Kelly Avenue on Wednesday when their home caught on fire and began to burn.

Fire crews from Edmond, Deer Creek and Oak Cliff arrived about 1 p.m. to find flames coming from the roof.

Oak Cliff Fire Chief Ken Stoops said the fire likely started in the attic, but the cause is under investigation.

No one was injured in the blaze.

Few fire hydrants in the area caused firefighting crews to have to bring water in with tankers, but Stoops said he didn’t believe that affected how crews were able to battle the blaze.

Ryan Amato, Ben Amato’s brother, said the family did not get any possessions from the home before it burned, but the family’s pets escaped unharmed.

“All of the kids’ stuff is gone because their rooms were upstairs, which is completely gone,” Amato said.

“I’m just glad it happened during the day when no one was home,” said Amato.
