Update: Norman wildfire contained

Fire crews will remain on the scene for several hours, official said. The fire is near 108th Avenue NE and Bethel Road.

4:05 p.m. The Norman fire is contained. Bailey said crews continue to work hot spots and will remain on the scene for several hours to make sure the blaze is extinguished. Helicopter crews are expected to make a second pass over the area to spray retardant. Red Cross workers are on the scene providing food and water for the firefighters.

2:20 p.m. Three National Guard helicopters are en route to make water drops along the fire lines in an effort to contain the fire. Conditions remain very dry, despite recent rains, Bailey said.

A fueling site has been established at 108th NE and Franklin Road for tanker trucks to refuel. Three homes were threatened at one point, but no structures have been lost and no injuries have been reported, Bailey said.

1:15 p.m. A command center is set up at 108th NE and Bethel Road, as about 80 acres continue to burn north of there, Norman's Deputy Fire Chief Jim Bailey said. Slaughterville firefighters have arrived to help battle the blaze.

12:05 p.m. — Firefighters are battling a wildfire near 108th Avenue NE and Bethel Road, a Norman fire dispatcher said.
