Oklahoma City police and a bomb squad unit have cleared a suspicious suitcase found downtown near the Oklahoma County jail.

The suitcase, found between the jail and the Oklahoma County Courthouse, was cleared as a source of any potential threat to the public following an investigation by bomb squad officials, Oklahoma City police spokeswoman Sgt. Jennifer Wardlow said.

About noon Monday, police responded to the location of the suitcase and shut down Shartel Avenue from Main Street to Robert S. Kerr Avenue, as a bomb squad unit investigated. Shartel Avenue reopened shortly after 3 p.m., Wardlow said.
