EL RENO — A Mustang woman accused of fatally shooting her husband last fall told her friends on the way to the hospital that she felt guilty because she had sex with another man earlier that day, according to witness testimony.

Rebecca Bryan, 52, appeared in court Wednesday at the Canadian County Courthouse for her preliminary hearing on a first-degree murder charge. She is accused of killing her husband, Keith Bryan, 52, who was the Nichols Hills fire chief at the time.

Sporting a weak smile and handcuffs, Rebecca Bryan entered the courtroom and listened to testimony given by four witnesses.

Her friend, Debbie Proctor, took the stand and said she was at the Bryans' home in Mustang at 1320 Rose Hill Drive shortly before the shooting about 10 p.m. Sept. 20. She said that the couple seemed happy that night.

After the shooting, Proctor said Rebecca Bryan called her and asked her to come over.

On the way to the hospital to check on Keith Bryan, Proctor testified that Rebecca Bryan showed the people in the car a picture of another man's penis on her phone. She testified that Bryan told them she had sex with the man, one of her real estate clients, earlier that day and felt guilty because of the shooting.

Bryan also showed them a text message she sent to a former lover about inheriting a significant amount of money soon and moving to Hugo.

The man, identified as Mark Holbrook, testified that Bryan also called him three hours before the shooting. He said the last time he spoke to her before the shooting was in February 2011. The night of the shooting she called him and he hung up on her, he said.

After meeting at a real estate preparation course in summer 2009, Holbrook said the two became friends and started having sex in December 2009.

Holbrook said he decided Bryan was manipulative after an intimate weekend together and wanted to end things in January 2010.

“I began to realize she wasn't the person I thought she was,” Holbrook said.

While crews worked to collect evidence at the home, Mustang detective Camie McNeil said Becky Bryan was seen laughing at times.

McNeil testified she was collecting gunshot residue and Bryan thought it was funny.

“Bryan said she watches C.S.I. and knows all about this stuff,” McNeil said.

In addition to interviewing her at the scene, McNeil said she spoke with Bryan several times at the hospital.

In an interview with an Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation agent, McNeil testified that Bryan took her shirt off and exposed her breasts after officials told her they would need to collect her clothing at the end of the interview.

McNeil said Bryan also made inappropriate comments to her.

Mustang police officer James Davis testified Wednesday afternoon in a Canadian County courtroom that he and another officer arrived at the scene of the shooting within four minutes of receiving a 911 call.

Davis said he approached Becky Bryan in the garage and she started talking to him about a burglary case he worked in the past rather than telling him details about the shooting.

Davis said he had to ask Bryan where her husband was.

“I had to ask her to take me to him,” he said.

Davis said he found Keith Bryan lying on the couch with a gunshot wound to the head. He said Bryan was still breathing, so he requested medical assistance.

Another witness testified Wednesday that Becky Bryan started making calls and telling people shortly after that her husband had died.

A man who told officials Bryan called and texted him the night of the shooting said he met her at a real estate preparation course in summer 2009.

Mark Holbrook, of Hugo, said the two became friends and started having sex in December 2009.

After spending a weekend together, Holbrook said he decided Bryan was manipulative and wanted to end the relationship.

“I began to realize she wasn't the person I thought she was,” Holbrook said.

The next day, he had a three-way phone conversation with Rebecca and Keith Bryan, confessing about the affair, he testified.

He said Keith Bryan was understanding and didn't get angry. Holbrook said he vowed to stay away from Rebecca Bryan.

Soon after the split, Holbrook said he received phone calls and texts from Rebecca Bryan, who also contacted his parents, wife and son.

Bryan called and left him a message in February 2010 saying she was pregnant, but he never returned the call, Holbrook testified.

He said the last time he spoke to her before the shooting was in February 2011. The night of the shooting she called him and he hung up on her, he said.
