Police are trying to determine whether a series of shootings Tuesday morning in northwest Oklahoma City — including one that critically injured a teenager waiting for a school bus — are connected.

Bronson Quickle, 17, was listed in critical condition Tuesday at OU Medical Center. Quickle was shot in the chest and another boy was pistol-whipped during an apparent robbery attempt in the driveway of a home in the 4300 block of NW 16, police said. He was waiting for a bus to Justice Alma Wilson SeeWorth Academy, where he was a junior.

“He's a great student and just a joy to be around,” said Janey Grigg, director of SeeWorth Academy. “Mentors came in from the community to be with any of those students who are having a hard time.”

School officials also went to the hospital to be with Quickle's relatives as he underwent surgery.

Levi Adams, who lives in the 4300 block of NW 16, said he was asleep about 5:40 a.m. Tuesday when he heard a loud noise and thought something had hit his house.

"My dog went crazy," Adams said.

Adams looked out the window and saw Quickle lying shot on the driveway of the house. Another boy was standing over him.

"At first I thought I was dreaming," Adams said.

Adams went outside and called 911. The boys told Adams two people approached them and demanded money. Quickle was shot, and the other boy was pistol-whipped. The robbers got in a car and fled, the boys told Adams.

Quickle was talking as he lay on the driveway.
