Update: Police rule death of man struck by truck an accident.

The man was run over shortly before 8 a.m. Police are trying to notify his family.

1:30 p.m. Police say the man's death was an accident.

Knight said the man inside a trash bin when a Waste Management truck arrived to empty it. The man was tossed out and fell behind the truck, which backed over him.

The driver didn't know he was there or that the truck ran over him, according to Knight.

“This is nothing more than a tragic accident,” Knight said.

Police haven't identified the man because they haven't been able to contact his family.

8:20 a.m. A man has been struck and killed by a vehicle at SW 59 and S Dewey Avenue, police Master Sgt. Gary Knight reports.

The man was struck shortly before 8 a.m. Friday, reports Knight.

Police are on the scene and traffic is being diverted.
