11:45 a.m. Temperatures were rising fast enough Thursday morning to break the record high in Oklahoma City. At 11:30 a.m. the temperature at Will Rogers World Airport hit 100 degrees. It was not 100 at the airport until noon Wednesday, when the temperature topped out at 112 by early evening.
“We are running a little ahead of yesterday,” said Ken Gallant, meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Norman. The record is 113 degrees for Oklahoma City and the forecast Thursday calls for near 114 degrees.
“It is going to be real close,” Gallant said.
6:12 a.m. And you thought yesterday was hot.
Thursday the high temperature in Oklahoma City could be near 114 degrees, a day after the temperature at Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City hit 112 degrees, the National Weather Service reports.
If the temperature hits 114 degrees it will break an all-time Oklahoma City record 113 set in 1936 during the Dust Bowl.
Most of the state Thursday is under a burn ban for wildfire danger, a fire weather watch, an excessive heat warning and in the Oklahoma City and Tulsa areas, air quality alerts.
