Two teenagers were still in critical condition Saturday night after they fell from the hood of a moving car, police said.

Jennifer Monroe, Edmond police spokeswoman, said the two boys, whose names were not released, were fighting for their lives Saturday night at OU Medical Center

She said they were both injured Friday night while “car surfing” in the 2000 block of Running Branch Road.

Monroe said the 15-year-old boy who was driving the vehicle could face criminal charges. The district attorney ultimately will determine whether to file charges. She said that likely will depend on the injured boys' recovery.

Car surfing is an activity in which a person stands on the hood of a moving vehicle. It has been depicted in movies and on the Internet.

According to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, almost 60 people have died while attempting the stunt between 1990 and 2008.

Monroe said Edmond police haven't seen many cases of car surfing but she stressed the danger of this kind of act.

“I'm sure it's happening elsewhere, but others haven't gotten hurt yet,” Monroe said. “This is very dangerous and can get you killed. Nobody should even think about trying it.”
