Oklahoma City street crews will begin treating overpasses and bridges with a salt mixture beginning at 10 a.m. Monday, according to a tweet from city spokeswoman Kristy Yager Monday morning. Trucks are being loaded and will cover spots that could get icy citywide.
Snow is expected to taper off Tuesday night, but areas of blowing snow could reduce visibility with temperatures dropping to a low of 10 degrees.
A winter storm warning issued Monday morning states snow will develop between midnight Monday and 9 a.m. Tuesday with heavy snow during the day. Areas from Lawton to Oklahoma City may have an extended period of sleet before the sleet changes to snow, making roads slick and hazardous. Drifts could make east and west roads packed with snow and impassable.
With gusts of wind up to 45 mph whiteout conditions will make travel difficult, the weather service reports.
