SOUTHAMPTON, England (AP) — Southampton says that its Uruguay international Gaston Ramirez is facing six weeks on the sidelines after picking up a thigh problem.
The 21-year-old attacking midfielder, who became the Premier League club's record signing at more than 12 million pounds ($19 million) when he joined in August, was treated in hospital for a dead leg — which led to swelling in his thigh. He had already missed Southampton's draw against Fulham on Oct. 7.
Southampton manager Nigel Adkins was pleased with Ramirez's progress, saying: "I think six weeks is probably about right, but we'll see how he progresses through the rehab stages."
Ramirez should be available to Uruguay manager Oscar Tabarez for the team's friendly against Poland in Gdansk on Nov. 14.
