US Airways proposes Oklahoma City to D.C. match up
The airline Thursday filed paperwork with the Department of Transportation to start daily round trip flights between Will Rogers World Airport and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.
Will Rogers World Airport has been given a second chance at a connection to Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C.
US Airways on Thursday proposed a daily nonstop flight between the Oklahoma City airport and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. If approved, the airline also would add two daily trips between Oklahoma City and Charlotte, N.C., the airline's largest hub with more than 125 connections.
Oklahoma City travelers would gain an airline and access to two new cities nonstop.
“It would open a whole lot of connections to the eastern part of the country and internationally — Europe, South America, the Caribbean,” said Karen Carney, a spokeswoman for Will Rogers World Airport. “The new carrier and the new service it will provide to travelers would be a great win for us.”
US Airways filed its proposal with the U.S. Department of Transportation to fill slots vacated by Spirit Airlines, which is no longer flying to the D.C. airport. Other proposals for the slots include Southwest Airlines, which bid for Houston Hobby, and Jet Blue, which bid for Jacksonville, Fla.
Earlier this year, Southwest Airlines made a bid on another opening at Washington Reagan with a route to Oklahoma City, but that route was awarded to US Airways to continue nonstop service to Jackson, Miss.
