SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) — U.S National men's soccer team captain Clint Dempsey is among five people who have been named to the Southern Conference Hall of Fame.
The league announced the new class Thursday. The group will be inducted at ceremonies in Asheville, N.C., in March.
Dempsey played soccer at Furman from 2001-03, helping the Paladins win two SoCon regular-season and tournament titles. He has played professionally in the MLS and the English Premier League.
Dempsey has been in over 100 matches for the United State and is expected to help the U.S. World Cup team compete in Brazil starting in June.
Other inductees are former Appalachian State football coach Jerry Moore, former Duke football and basketball player Eddie Cameron, ex-Furman women's basketball player Rushia Brown and former Wake Forest baseball player Charlie Teague.
