Everyone was worked up about a repeat of 2004, a three-headed monster of an unbeaten USC, an unbeaten Big 12 champ and an unbeaten SEC champ.

Now the debate moves to this: What happens if an unbeaten from the Big Ten (Penn State or Wisconsin), the ACC (Wake Forest) or the Big East (South Florida) is competing with a once-beaten champ from the SEC or Big 12?

USC's loss gave hope to the other beleaguered leagues, because an unbeaten Big 12 or SEC champ is not at all assured.
